CORBIN STREAK SNAPPED
The Lady Redhoubnds hit only two field goals in the fourth quarter, but didn’t need many more as they nailed 14-of-19 free throws in the period to held off the Lady Colonels, 56-52.
Corbin hit 20-of-30 from the line for the game while Whitley County hit 17-of-23. It was the first time in six years that the Lady Redhounds have captured the district title.
The Lady Redhounds had as chance to blow the game open in the first half as they led 27-15 just before the half ended. A Sabrina Sizemore three-pointer allowed the Lady Collonels to climb within 27-18 at the half.
Whitley County slowly fought back to tie the game in the fourth quarter 45-45 on a Maria Johnson rebound basket. The game was tied at 47-47 before Corbin used the free throw line to their advantage and pulled away for the win.
Whitley County’s Brandi Smith led all scorers with 22 points while teammate Kandace Craig added 13 points. Miranda Wilson led Corbin with 17 points.
Both teams will advance to the 13th Region Tournament that begins Wednesday at Harlan County High School.
