Corbin School votes to collect taxes in-house beginning 2022-2023
Beginning with the 2022-2023 tax cycle, Corbin residents will be paying some taxes directly to the Corbin Independent School District rather than to the city.
The Corbin Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the in-house collection of taxes beginning in the 2022-2023 tax cycle during its Nov. 11 meeting.
In the past, the city and the sheriff have collected the property taxes and vehicle taxes that are allocated to the school district, and the school district has paid a fee for those collections.
Superintendent Dave Cox said, “Several districts in the state do this [in-house collection], and it became cost effective for Corbin to do so as well.”
The tax rate will not change because of the in-house collection. The only difference will be the location to which the taxes are mailed or dropped off.
In other business, the Corbin Board of Education unanimously:
- Accepted School Facilities Construction Commission’s offer of assistance for the fiscal year 2021-2022;
- Approved the sixth school security request;
- Created and separated positions for boys and girls swimming with a compensation of $1,200 per position;
- Increased the contract days for the athletic director to 210 days per year;
- Created a position for a Corbin High school HVAC instructor for the 2022-2023 school year;
- Created a position for a Corbin High school construction/carpentry instructor for the 2022-2023 school year;
- Approved the creation of an E-Sports program at Corbin High School;
- Approved a coaching position for E-Sports at Corbin High School.
