Corbin residences each getting a 95-gallon garbage can as part of new budget

Corbin’s budget for fiscal year 2021-2022, which started July 1, includes a 95-gallon garbage can that the city will be providing for each residence in the city limits, a new fire truck, and money to have the “Finger Lickin’ Musical” screen play written.

During a special called meeting Wednesday, the Corbin City Commission held the first reading of the budget ordinance, and unanimously approved the budget ordinance during a special called meeting late Thursday afternoon.

The budget includes $12,247,188 in the general fund.

Budget highlights include:

• $148,347 in paving for city streets from municipal road aid money.
• $1 per hour pay increase for all full-time employees in the public words, arena, recycling, city hall maintenance and recreation departments.
• $14,188.79 for a lease/purchase agreement for a downtown portable stage.
• Installation of two electric car charging stations for the downtown area.
• $61,000 to build two pickle ball courts.
• $29,605 to repaint the Engineer Street Bridge.
• $60,000 to renovate the Miller Park concession building, including inside bathrooms, concession room, and equipment.
• $15,000 for soccer fields and drainage.
• $25,000 for a public arts project.
