Corbin police arrest South Carolina man in stolen car with stolen tag

A South Carolina man, who is behind bars in Whitley County after being caught in a vehicle that had been reported stolen, told Corbin police Saturday afternoon that he was unaware he was in Kentucky and thought he was in North Carolina.

Corbin Police Major David Maiden charged Joshua T. Henderson, 21, of Sumter, South Carolina, with receiving stolen property $10,000 or more (motor vehicle), public intoxication, operating on a suspended South Carolina driver’s license, and theft of a motor vehicle registration plate.

Henderson was arrested about 1:09 p.m. behind the Best Western Inn in a 2009 black Chevrolet Avalanche after police received a report that he was allegedly approaching patrons and staff attempting to sell an Xbox system and a Taser for $5, according to his arrest citation.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Henderson sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with the keys in the ignition, Maiden wrote on the citation.

The vehicle had a South Carolina dealer tag from Jones Chevrolet Cadillac that had been reported stolen, and the VIN number on the vehicle was also reported as stolen to the Sumter Police Department in South Carolina, Maiden wrote.

Henderson allegedly told police that he purchased the vehicle from a friend one week earlier for $6,000 but there was no witness to the transaction, according to the citation.

Henderson also had an empty Oxycodone bottle in the vehicle that had been filled two days earlier, the citation stated.

Henderson was arrested and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
