Corbin Middle School parent wants officials to do more about threatening letter

Evelyn Williams, mother of a Corbin Middle School child who had repeatedly been threatened and harassed at school, came to the school board meeting Thursday night to ask why more had not been done regarding a note purportedly threatening her daughter’s life.
Williams’ attorney, Christopher Haden, told the board, the girl brought the note home on March 25. Williams contacted school administrators, who reportedly told her they would investigate. Corbin Police were contacted, but the investigation was inconclusive.
When asked by Haden, the school board members acknowledged this was the first they had heard of the incident.
Following a brief executive session, board attorney Bob Hammons said the board will review the investigation and the materials and take appropriate action.

My kids don’t go to Corbin, but I am well aware of their elitist way of doing things from nieces and nephews who have gone there. I wonder if these people realize how easy it is to be a big fish in a small pond? If these “special” kids ever make it out of this place, it will be a real eye-opener when they find out that no one has ever heard of their little Corbin eutopia, and no one gives a fig who their parents are! I think the parents and the school are doing a huge disservice to these kids by treating them differently based on how much money thier parents have. Who cares??? Certainly nobody outside of the Corbin city limits!

Example: the other day i got wrote up because my phone turned on in my pocket and made a little sound, then about 10 mins after that a “foot ball player” was texting on his phone and the teacher told him to finish the text and put it away.
And every parent who has said that they “play favorites” THEY DO! and it is bull. Something really needs to happen.
Another example: Last week one of my friends got into a fight with a foot ball player (the foot ball player started the fight) and my friend (the one fighting back in self defense) is the one who got the one who got in trouble ( the only reason the foot ball player didn’t get in trouble is because hes is a “corbin favorite”)

Glad to see your post You are living proof of the double standards at Corbin schools Cheerleaders and jocks dont ever see their special treatment because they have gotten it for years, Dr. and lawyers kids are the same way never do nothing wrong and nothing is ever thier fault, My child went to corbin schools for 7 years and we went thru 7 years of this double standard trash. One of the other post speaks of this going on at all schools and that is true!!! but Corbin schools push it much farther than any other school in our area AND IT STARTS AT THE TOP THE SCHOOL BOARD AND THE CRAP RUNS DOWNHILL,,,, This will never change at Corbin Schools untill the people at the top are changed that encourge this type of double standards FOR THE KIDS IN SPORTS AND THE DOCTORS AND LAWYERS KIDS TOO

Okayy. Seriously! This is totally not true! I’m a cheerleader and I get treated equally as the other kids! What is the definition of prep anyways? There’s soo many!
It all boils down to peer pressure from a very materialistic driven community. The kids think that the more it cost the better it is. For example, The dress code at the school doesnt allow shirts with words or sayings , but they are allowed to wear them if it is a name brand such as hollister, or the abercrombie name. I don’t want to see the vulgur ones but some are cute and in better taste.. They look like walking advertisments , heaven forbid their shirts say, i “heart” USA. Thats just another example of their double standard. But i learn to deal with it by teaching my kid the difference pick my battles in some other area.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME POEPLE? THE SAME THINGS THAT GO ON AT CORBIN GO ON AT WHITLEY, KNOX, LAUREL & LYNN CAMP. IT’S NO WORSE THERE THEN IT IS ANYWHERE ELSE.. WANT TO SEND YOUR CHILD TO WHITLEY BECAUSE OF IT… IT WILL BE THE SAME THERE EXCEPT YOUR CHILD WILL BE 2 YEARS A HEAD OF THE REST OF THE CLASS IN ACAMEDICS.

she has already been to the principal about other issues and felt nothing would be done about this. handwriting wont change from one day to the next. so an expert would be able to compare and i would bet you a 1000.00 the principal didn’t call the police i would say the mother did. because the B.O.E didnt know so the principal didnt call the police
just trying to push it under the rug so she could be in with the rest of the group on how perfect corbin schools are i have been to corbin schools and so i know from experience along with everyone else that posted so i think we know what we’re talking about

First instinct of corbin schools is to hush things up and try to make them go away. It is not until someone makes a stink they actually do anything.
Isn’t this is a public school? There can’t be that many well to do people in Corbin who control this school district is there? I seriously believe that if enough parents come together the district will have to change it’s policies or seriously change its staff! Also there should be enough parents out there to be able to change this school board who has a blind eye to these privaleged kids. I did not attend school in Corbin thank goodness, but I have attended schools where sports was everything in a larger city and I never encountered teachers or coaches allowing certain kids to do whatever they want. I find it unbelievable and I think these teachers and coaches need to get their heads out of their butts and start acting like human beings so these kids can start learning to do the same.
what i cant understand is why these knox co people want any thing to do with corbin stuck up people.the only reason they want knox county kids is for the money and they can push them around thats the truth
I agree Meadbow but you fail to understand the problem starts with the coaches and teachers they are the ones who let the jocks and elete children do what ever they want The jocks and cheerleaders and Dr. and Lawyers kids at corbin do no wrong never because the powers to be fail to see it When my child was in corbin high school a best friend was one of the cheerleaders and was late for school all most everyday the whole 11th and 12 grade years and I do not mean a couple of min. at a time we are talking about half an hour at a time and was never one time in trouble for this conduct (from the teachers or the office) Why ??????? DOUBLE STANDARDS !!!!!!!

Shame on these parents for raising these monsters who think it is okay to bully or hurt anyone! If it was my daughter beleive me I would be knocking on some doors to get to the bottom on it. We all know the little girl knows who handed her the letter and knows who is the one giving her a hard time. Listen to the child folks and then follow up with those awful kids’ parents and then the school board etc. The school and coaches should really begin punishing these kids for any kind of miscounduct- any kind of verbal abuse, temper tantrum or bullying should get them thrown out of any sport program-I beleive that would alone curb some of the nasty behavior these “special” kids think they are allowed to do to others.
i would like to go on record and say I was told one of my grandsons had a problem with alcohol and had been given steriods, by another students parent,who”s son is also was used by the football team,until he was of no further use. I can only say I pray for all the young people who think the only things in life that matter is if you are getting a standing ovation.but its how you live your life after high school,be it foot’basket,base or what ever ball. men are dying eneryday for a much higher calling than to play ball. thank you and MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA
corbin schoool system is a joke. my grandson played football and was treated like he walked on water. three children and two more grandsons and guess what SAME SONG DIFFERINT YEAR.they dont care if you can walk and chw gum,as long as you can kick or dribble a ball. you will graduate. or shood i say grageate..my football plaing grandson got hurt playing football at college,lost his scolarship,now lost in the world of ROIDRAGE, PILLS,AND BOOZE.GOOD SHOW CORBIN!!!!!!!!
Yes we went through a simular thing at the middle school and the Principal at the time(not the current) did go as far as looking at hand writing to compare and see if he could find who wrote the note and did prove who had wrote the note I wonder why this Principal did nothing like this ???????????????????????Maybe because who the note was wrote to is not a jock or cheerleader or Dr or lawyers child ??????????no matter how you put it and WHO you may know this school and all corbin schools have a double standards on everything PERIOD
While I do agree with previous posters that CISD is an elitist school system and has its share of problems because of it, there are some things that no one is pointing out. It is very difficult to prove who wrote a note, especially the next day. If the girl had taken the note to the Principal immediately there would have been a greater chance of getting to the bottom of it. But, by taking it home first, and waiting until the next day, a lot of things could have happened. The fact that the police were called tells that the school was taking it seriously. It also prevents the school officials from doing any further investigating as they can’t interfere with a police investigation. I have known the Principal at CMS for a long time and I know that she cares about kids…all kids. With the new laws that were enacted, it changed the way schools were allowed to handle these cases. Remember folks, if you don’t have ALL the information it is difficult know exactly what is going on. I also feel compassion for this young girl and her family as I went through similar things with my daughter, but don’t condemn the school until you know all of the facts. And remember…there are 2 sides to every story and kids can be and at times are very very cruel.

If this young girl had been one of the DR.or Lawyers children the corbin school system would have moved a moutain to find out who wrote this note,, But because she comes from a normal family background and not one of the elete bunch she means nothing to them you can run your mouth all you want But my child went through the same trash at corbin schools,, And you talked about the mother having to go to a school board meeting yes she did and STILL nothing was done and never will be,,,.,. You would think that an investigation would alert the school board. This shouldn’t be the first they had heard. The problem was apparently swept under the rug. I pride myself on being a law abiding citizen but when it comes to your child and you’ve followed the rules and it gets ignored, I guess I would be seeing red also. Then you and your child would be labled as a trouble maker, and the child would be getting bullied by the book, the court system and DCS.
It is amazing when you read the comments to this article that people are somehow focused on who’s in and out at Corbin and not on the fact that a Middle School parent has to show up at a School Board meeting to get something done about bullying! With all of the national media attention being given to school bullying you would think it would be taken more seriously by school officials. Having said that, there must be more to the story. My kids go to Corbin Schools and I have known Ms. Jaynes to be very competent. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
I’ve seen this crap for years. I left Corbin for 20 years due to military service and only returned because of ailing parents. I grew up with jocks and prep club pukes being the elite and now they take over where their parents left off. All of them are elitists and think that because they have some talent on the gridiron or bb court they are the best. But you know whats really funny and ironic? I see a lot of these jocks and preppies parents in trouble with their kids facing court for drugs and they grow up amounting to nothing. A lot of them go to law school and such and never serve one day in the military, but they are given preferential treatment. Case in point; Coach Archie Powers, he was the first FB coach in years in 1976 to win the state title, he was the golden boy coach. 4 years later he’s busted growing marijuana in the national forest and goes to prison, he was a role model for a lot of kids. And even when he got out of jail they still treated him like God. The Forchts, Tiptons, Freemans and etc are all the same.
There are double standards at each school system. corbin does play favorites. i have seen it first hand. school system and court system when it comes to jouvenils it is to easy to put them in front of court system. some issues may be over looked due to who you may be. i hope this family stands their groung if all is true and follow through don’t put all your trust is the system.. if everyone would stand up and voice their comments on how our school/court systems are towards situations to frankfort thing may change. i took that step but it made a target on my childs back but thats what you have to do. have a back bone and supporters.

Oh yes.. I’m very sorry for the trouble you are having. I had a child go to Corbin school’s too. If you are not a Jock or a prep you get crapped on. There was several time’s I went to the school board and had Picture’s to back up everything I was telling then and paper’s but my child wasn’t a Prep or a Jock so my chile got kick out of school for 3 day and had to do in school supiciton [sorry not spelled right] too. I feel for you and you fight with everything you have for your child. There is so much Double starnard’s in Corbin school’s and when you prove that to them they will tell you there isn’t. I have been cussed out by the vice principle Then he had the nerver to tell me I was going to jail cuz I was standing up for my child. Please take care of your child anyway you can. from one concerned parent to another !!!
