Corbin man’s shooting death under investigation
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Corbin man found dead in his residence on Padgett Street Monday.
At about 10:07 a.m. Monday, Corbin Police received a 911 regarding the incident and arrived at the scene moments later. Police would not release the name of the victim, but sources close to the case said 42-year-old Frank “Casey” Catron was found dead alone on his living room couch with a single gunshot wound.
The Whitley County Major Crimes Task Force was quickly activated to investigate. Corbin Police Captain Tim Helton, lead investigator in the case, said a man who did yard work around the home at 108 Padgett Street discovered Catron’s body. A .223 caliber rifle was taken from the scene by police – the caliber of weapon authorities say caused Catron’s wound.
Helton said there didn’t appear to be any sign of forced entry into the home.
“Right now, we will try to trace the sale of the firearm and determine if the wound was self-inflicted, if it’s accidental or if someone came in and killed him,” Helton said. “It could be a lot of different things.”
Authorities were still notifying next of kin as of Tuesday. Catron’s parents were vacationing in Florida at the time of his death.
Helton said police are unsure how long Catron had been dead before he was discovered. Neighbors report hearing nothing unusual. Catron lived alone in the home and was last seen by friends on Sunday.
Police searched the residence during the investigation and seized several items, including some prescription medication.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley said Catron’s body will be sent to Frankfort so that an autopsy can be performed. Cause of death will be determined when the autopsy is complete.
