Corbin man saves neighbor’s life during fire

A Corbin man is being credited with saving his neighbor’s life early Wednesday morning after her house caught on fire.

Corbin Fire Chief Barry McDonald said that a next-door neighbor, who hasn’t been identified, heard a loud popping sound, which sounded like an explosion, and looked out the window to see Leann Kersey’s house on fire.

“Had he not woke her up and told her the house was on fire, I believe it would have been a different outcome,” added Fire Capt. Chad Jackson.

The fire was reported shortly after 2 a.m. at a split-level house with a carport that was located on Adkins Street. When firefighters arrived it was fully engulfed in flames.

Officials aren’t sure what caused the blaze, but no foul play is suspected. The home is considered a total loss.

No one was injured. Kersey was the only occupant in the home.

Two fire trucks and about a dozen firefighters responded, and were on the scene for well over five hours.
