Corbin man reportedly hits car at local dealership, drives wrong way in effort to elude police
A Corbin man is facing numerous charges in Knox County after he allegedly led Kentucky State Police on a high-speed chase through Corbin Thursday night, hitting a car at a local dealership and driving the wrong way on U.S. 25E in the process.
Thirty-seven-year-old Jason Sevier was arrested following a vehicle and foot pursuit that reportedly began when Trooper Chris Saunders attempted to make a traffic stop for expired tags on the Toyota Camry Sevier was driving.
Saunders said in the arrest citation that he attempted to make the stop about 9:15 p.m.
“Sevier) accelerated and ran a stop sign at Engineer St. and continued to flee,” Saunders wrote in the arrest report.
Saunders said Sevier ran several more stop signs as he made multiple turns before turning onto Master Street.
As the chase continued east on Master Street, Saunders said Sevier used the turning lane to pass several cars.
The chase turned onto South Commonwealth Ave and then onto Ky. 1232.
“We proceed until they got to Blue Bonnet Circle where he drove through a yard and into the field behind Falls (Legacy) Ford,” Saunders said. “He struck a car in the parking lot then continued through the lot, Jumping the curb that separates the gas station from Falls Ford onto US 25E where he drove across the median and started east in the west bound lane.”
With traffic coming that them, Saunders used a pit technique to spin the Camry and send it into the median where it came to a stop.
Saunders said Sevier got out of the car and attempt to run back across 25E.
Saunders gave chase, finding Sevier in a creek. A scuffle ensued, during which Saunders deployed his Taser. When Sevier continued to resist, Saunders said he struck him several times in the back of the head with a closed fist until he became compliant.
“(Sevier) then attempted to jerk away while being escorted to the cars so I took the above to the ground to regain compliance,” Saunders wrote in the arrest report.
Saunders was transported to Baptist Health Corbin where a blood sample was secured to conduct a blood alcohol test.
The results of the test are pending.
Sevier was charged with speeding – 26 mph or greater over the limit, first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid, tampering with physical evidence, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, resisting arrest, no registration plates, no registration receipt, failure to produce insurance card, no insurance, failure to wear seat belts, disregarding a stop sign, operator’s license to be in possession, failure to or improper signal, improper lane usage, reckless driving, improper passing and rear license not illuminated.
Sevier was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center where he is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
