Corbin man leads KSP on foot chase through CTA parking lot
A Corbin man led Kentucky State Police on a foot chase through CTA parking lot on Thursday, May 24.
McKenzie Smith, 38, of Corbin was arrested on nine charges after making an illegal U-turn on the Corbin bypass to avoid a safety checkpoint.
The suspect passed two vehicles in a no passing zone almost striking an oncoming vehicle, Trooper Sidney Wagner wrote in the citation
The suspect fled to the CTA parking lot where he proceeded on foot. After several minutes, Troopers and workers located the subject walking around the factory, Wagner wrote.
“While conducting the walk and turn, the subject failed to count out loud and missed heel to toe on steps 2,3,4,5,6,7,8. Subject then did not conduct the proper turning movement and only took four steps back,” wrote Wagner.
Smith advised troopers that he had an active warrant for his arrest and he had taken hydrocodone and smoked marijuana.
Smith was arrested on improper turning, reckless driving, improper passing, improper registration plate, no registration plates, no registration receipt, failure of owner to maintain insurance, and failure to produce insurance card.
Smith is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $1000 cash bond and will be arraigned in the Knox County District Court on Thursday, May 31.
