Corbin man ‘knocked out’ after starting fight with store clerk

A Corbin man was taken to Baptist Health Corbin for treatment of head and leg injuries he sustained during an altercation with a store clerk Tuesday morning.

Fifty-four-year-old James Cassidy has been cited to appear in Whitley District Court on charges of alcohol intoxication, menacing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Corbin Police Capt. Coy Wilson said Cassidy and the clerk, who was not identified, had been involved in an on-going argument.

Cassidy and his significant other reportedly went to the store to confront the clerk.

“It was over a dog,” Wilson said.

Wilson said Cassidy was allegedly yelling at, threatening and making obscene gestures to the clerk while standing outside the store.

“Cassidy started to come into the store and charged at the clerk,” Wilson said. “When the clerk punched him, Cassidy fell and broke his ankle.”

Wilson said Cassidy admitted to police that he had been drinking alcohol prior to the confrontation and that he had made threats to the clerk.

Wilson said when Corbin Police Lt. Glenn Taylor and Officer Wade Mitchell attempted to secure Cassidy in handcuffs, Cassidy would not comply with their commands.
