Corbin man jailed for allegedly shooting into southern Laurel Co. homes

Rolland Atkins is facing wanton endangerment, criminal mischief and tampering with physical evidence charges.

A Corbin man is still behind bars after allegedly shooting into two homes during a recent incident in southern Laurel County.

Rolland C. Atkins, 21, is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Laurel District Court after his arrest on four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree criminal mischief.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Atkins about 5:17 a.m. on Sept. 19 in connection with an incident that occurred off Palomino Trail about 13 miles south of London, according to a Laurel County Sheriff’s Department release.

Deputies received a complaint that shots had been fire during an alleged altercation in the middle of the road, the release stated.

Deputies learned through their investigation that apparently there had been a fight in the middle of the road, and one of the male subjects pulled out a handgun, according to the release.

The man allegedly fired three to four shots towards the people he was allegedly fighting, which missed them, but traveled into two different homes, the release stated.

Three people were in one home and a second home had one person inside it when the shots were fired.

Atkins then allegedly threw the firearm over a fence in an attempt to hide it, but deputies located the handgun, and arrested Atkins, who is currently lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond.

According to the detention center’s website, Atkins lives on Palomino Trail.

Sheriff’s Sgt. John Inman, Detective Chris Edwards, and Deputies Jake Miller, Shannon Jones and Daniel Grigsby all took part in the investigation.
