Corbin man facing contraband charge after Laurel jailers find drugs, knife in his boots

A Corbin man initially charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, is facing a felony charge of promoting contraband after Laurel County jail staff found a large knife, drugs and paraphernalia and a file hidden on his person Sunday afternoon.

Thirty-nine-year-old Christopher T. Brown was initially arrested about 11:45 a.m.

According to London Police, Brown was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Ky. 192 in London.

Brown failed several field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI.

Upon arrival at the detention center, jail staff reported finding the large fixed blade knife, along with a glass pipe, a small bag of marijuana and a knife file concealed in Brown’s boots.

Brown was charged with first-degree promoting contraband.

Brown was released from the detention center Monday afternoon on a $10,000 bond, post 10 percent.

Brown is scheduled to return to court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a Laurel County grand jury.

Under Kentucky law, first-degree promoting contraband is a Class D felony carrying a potential prison sentence of one to five years.
