Corbin man dies after crashing truck into Master Street McDonald’s

A Corbin man, and long-time employee of the Corbin City Utilities Commission, died Thursday evening after authorities say some sort of medical problem caused him to ram his Ford F-250 Super Duty pick-up truck into the front entrance of the Master Street McDonald’s.
Clarence Hood, 68, was coming from the Trademart Shopping Center when witnesses say he just appeared to stomp on the gas, hitting two cars and crashing into the drive-thru side entrance of the restaurant, severely damaging the entryway and front of the building.
Friends and co-workers of Hood say he either had a heart attack or seizure just before the accident ocurred.
The accident happened at about 5:00 p.m.
Norma Parks was sitting in a mini-van near the McDonald’s entrance with her daughter, Laura Wilson, and two grandaughters Kaitlyn Wilson, 19, and Keasha Wilson, 16, when the accident ocurred.
"I saw him coming and just thought ‘oh my God, he’s not going to stop," Parks said. "Something must have been wrong with him. He was going 30 or 40 mph."
Parks said Hood’s truck hit the mini-van and narrowly missed her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Wilson, who was entering the restaurant when the truck hit the building.
"She just started screaming. She had her hand on the door when she saw him," Parks said. "She got out of the way. I don’t know how. The Lord was just looking over her, that’s all you can say."
Laura Wilson said the family was going to Lynn Camp High School for a girl’s basketball intersquad scrimmage and had just stopped to get something to eat.
Hood also hit and damaged a white Chevy Impala at the intersection of Master Street and the entrances to McDonald’s and Trademart. The motorist was transported by ambulance to Baptist Regional Medical Center, but his/her identity and injuries are not yet know.
Hood was taken to BRMC as well where he ws pronounced dead.
Corbin City Utilities General Manager Ron Herd said Hood is a long-time employee of the utility company who planned to retire in January. He drove a backhoe for CUC.
"He was just a good old fellow," Herd said Thursday night. "Everybody thought the world of him."
