Corbin man charged with raping teen at knifepoint

A Corbin man was arrested Monday in Knox County for allegedly raping a 15-year-old at knifepoint.
Twenty-year-old Amos Sparkman was arrested Monday afternoon at his residence in Alumni Apartments off of Ohler Road.
According to the arrest citation, Kentucky State Police Trooper Chad Gregory initiated an investigation on Feb. 13 after the alleged victim reported that Sparkman had forced her to have sexual intercourse while holding a knife to her throat at a residence on Maple Street in north Corbin.
Based on the investigation, Gregory secured an arrest warrant Monday.
Sparkman is charged with one count of first-degree rape.
Sparkman is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
According to the arrest citation, the case will be adjudicated in Laurel County.
No court date has been set for Sparkman’s arraignment.
Under Kentucky law, first-degree rape is a class B felony, carrying a potential prison sentence of 10 to 20 years.
