Corbin man attempts to flee from deputies serving burglary warrant
Acting on a tip, Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Corbin man wanted for the burglary of a Kentucky Ave. residence but as deputies approached the residence Monday afternoon, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies arrested 45-year-old Johnny Smith on the burglary warrant, a second Whitley County warrant for receiving stolen property and multiple charges stemming from the altercation with deputies including: second-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, menacing and second-degree disorderly conduct.
Acciardo said deputies arrived at the residence on Ky. 1223 just after 2 p.m. to serve the warrant.
“When deputies arrived at the scene, this subject saw deputies and attempt to flee the scene and following a short foot chase was apprehended after a brief struggle with arresting deputies,” Acciardo stated.
Acciardo said the warrants filed by Corbin Police include charges of second-degree burglary and receiving stolen property.
Smith was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
