Corbin man arrested after attempted pharmacy burglary
A Corbin man is facing felony burglary and fleeing charges, among other things, after police say he tried to bust out one of the windows at a local pharmacy with a sledgehammer.
According to a Corbin Police Department news release, 29-year-old Dale Edward Valentine was apprehended Wednesday at his Gordon Hill home after a short foot pursuit. He was charged with first-degree burglary, fleeing and evading police, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon (two counts) and receiving stolen property.
The incident began when authorities responded to a burglar alarm at Doctor’s Park Pharmacy, located on Bishop Street. A man, believed to be Valentine, dressed in dark clothing had tried to bust out a window at the pharmacy with a sledgehammer.
Corbin Police Cpl. Jim Miller spotted a man in dark clothing walking along Walden Street a short time later and attempted to question him. The man, Valentine, fled into a wooded area. Sgt. Glenn Taylor Jr., with the help of K-9 Dog "Shep" located Valentine at his home where he was arrested without incident.
Police searched the area where they had chased Valentine on foot and found a loaded 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol that was reported stolen from the Gordon Hill area several days earlier. A search warrant was obtained and executed for Valentine’s residence where police discovered a separate handgun. It was seized.
An investigation into the case is continuing by Detective Bill Rose.
Officers David Maiden, Rob Jones and Matt Conley also assisted in the case.
