Corbin man and juvenile use Myspace.com to lure teen girl
A Corbin man and a 17-year-old juvenile male were arrested last week after police say they used a popular Internet social networking site to lure a teen girl into a secluded wooded area in north Corbin and forced her to have sex with them.
Christopher Wayne Kidd, 23, of Corbin, and an unnamed 17-year-old male juvenile were arrested last week and charged with rape and sodomy in the wake of an investigation into the case by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department. In addition, Kidd is charged with first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor for allegedly giving the teen alcohol.
The victim knew the 17-year-old from school.
"The 17-year-old basically set her up," Loomis said. "According to statements, Kidd asked the 17-year-old where they could find a girl for sex and that’s when the victim’s name came up. The 17-year-old said he doubted that she would participate, but they could try it anyway."
According to court records, the 17-year-old and Kidd then started sending the victim messages on Myspace.com. The night of the incident, Kidd and the 17-year-old met up with the victim and a friend who were walking near Wal-Mart in Corbin. Kidd drove them to a secluded wooded area. The 17-year-old then produced a bottle of vodka that all three of them drank from, passing it around.
Kidd admitted to drinking vodka with the victim and the 17-year-old juvenile. He further stated that he engaged in oral and vaginal intercourse with the victim after observing the seventeen-year-old and the victim engaged in the same activities.
"Kidd said the victim told him she was 16, but her Myspace profile shows her age in several places and the victim told the two her age the night of the incident," Loomis said.
According to the police report, Kidd and the 17-year-old continued engaging in this activity despite repeated requests from the victim to allow her to go home.
"The victim said at one point a car drove close to where the two were and the victim said she had to go because it might be her foster mother, then Kidd put his hand over her mouth so she couldn’t scream," Loomis said.
Loomis arrested Kidd in Laurel District Court Tuesday. Kidd was scheduled to appear on a domestic violence charge of a girlfriend.
Kidd pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday in Laurel District Court. He was supposed to return to court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, but it was postponed because he did not have an attorney.
The preliminary hearing is rescheduled for June 9t at 11 a.m. in Laurel County District Court. Roger Gibbs is his attorney. The hearing will determine if there is sufficient cause to present the case to a Laurel County Grand Jury. Senior Judge Roderick
Messer set Kidd’s bond at $100,000 cash. Kidd is lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
The 17-year-old was arrested and lodged in a state juvenile detention center Monday. Loomis said it is possible the he will be tried as an adult in this case.
