Corbin man airlifted to UK after SUV rear-ends semi
A Corbin man is listed in "fair" condition at University of Kentucky Medical Center after his SUV rear-ended a tractor-trailer truck on Interstate 75 in Laurel County near the northbound scales Wednesday morning.
According to Officer Steven Douglas, public affairs officer with the Kentucky State Police Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, 34-year-old Frank Manning was extricated from his Chevy Tahoe after it struck the back of the box trailer.
Douglas said the truck, driven by 26-year-old Ali Diss of Fort Worth, Texas, was attempting to exit to the scales when the wreck occurred.
Diss was not injured.
A helicopter landing zone was established in the parking lot of the scale facility.
Douglas said traffic on I-75 was reduced to one lane as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected factors in the crash and both parties were wearing seat belts.
Vehicle enforcement was assisted at the scene by Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies, Laurel County Fire Department, Laurel County Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County and PHI Air Ambulance.
Officer Rob Mitchell is continuing the investigation.
