Corbin Library to host special drama about life of Daniel Boone Thursday

Kentucky Chautauqua actor Scott New, a historian from Berea, will portray Daniel Boone during a special drama Thursday at the Corbin Public Library.
What many people think they know about Daniel Boone, through legendary stories and embellishment over the years, isn’t true.
But the famous Kentuckian’s exploits justify his status as one of the state’s most recognized historical figures, and his legacy will be the focus of a special drama being performed at the Corbin Public Library Thursday by Kentucky Chautauqua.
As part of the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc., Kentucky Chautauqua has been crafting historical dramas about the most fascinating figures from Kentucky’s past since 1992. Thursday’s event, scheduled to take place at the library starting at 6:00 p.m., is free and open to the public.
"I’ve seen several of these dramas that the Chautauqua do and all of them have been outstanding," said Diane Mitchell, President of the Corbin Public Library Board of Trustees.
"They do very good portrayals of Kentucky’s historical characters."
Scott New, a Chautauqua actor, and a historian from Berea, will play the role of Daniel Boone during Thursday’s performance.
New tries to provide those in attendance with a truthful review of Boone’s most noted achievements. Neither a backwoods bumpkin nor an epic slayer of Indians, Boone was an intrepid explorer and natural leader whose actual exploits amply justify his larger-than-life reputation. He played a crucial role in the exploration and settlement of Kentucky and the American west.
New has two Boone programs he performs – one focusing on his exploration of Kentucky as a market hunter in 1769, and the other regarding the siege of Fort Boonesboro.
"I encourage anyone who is interested in Kentucky history to come to the library Thursday and enjoy a great show," Mitchell said. "It will be a very nice evening."
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Corbin Public Library, a non-profit organization that helps support the library. Refreshments will be provided at the event.
