Corbin Library plans teen spaghetti, marshmallow building challenge

The Corbin Public Library is offering area teens the opportunity to show off their building skills using marshmallows and spaghetti.

On Feb. 12, the library will host the Teen Marshmallow Building Challenge.

Sasha Ledger, circulation manager at the library, said the challenge involves using marshmallows to secure the raw spaghetti strands like a high rise building’s steel skeleton.

The teen, or team with the tallest structure at the end will win a prize.

“It will depend on the number of participants we have as to whether they compete individually or as teams,” Ledger said noting this is the first time the library has hosted this event.

Ledger said it is not just about height, but stabilizing the structure so that it doesn’t lean.

“We are trying to incorporate more of these types of things,” Ledger said of the competition adding that it gives the teens a taste of professions such architecture and engineering.

The event is open to children in grades 6-12.

Space is limited, so signups are required.
