Corbin home destroyed by blaze Friday morning; officials think dryer caused fire

Firefighters are looking at a clothes dryer as the source of a fire that destroyed a home on Boone Ave. in Corbin Friday morning.
West Knox Firefighters were called to the scene off of Beatty Ave. about 8:15 a.m.
"The roof of the house fell in within two or three minutes of us arriving on scene," said West Knox Fire Chief Daryl Baker.
Manpower requests went out to Lily, Keavy and Woodbine fire departments. Baker said Lily Fire Department’s mutual aid agreement with Campground, brought firefighters from there as well.
Baker said no one was inside the home when the fire began. The owner, Debbie Brown reportedly told firefighters that she had left the dryer on when she left the home about 7 a.m.
With the remains of the roof lying scattered throughout the interior, firefighters’ efforts to extinguish the blaze and chase down hot spots were made more difficult.
As of 11 a.m., firefighters remained on the scene continuing their efforts to ensure the fire was extinguished.
