Corbin High School grads involved in student government organization at Liberty University
Corbin High School alumni Caleb Webb and Nancy Jane Jackson are making a difference at Liberty University through their participation in the Student Government Association (SGA).
Liberty University is an accredited private Christian university in Lynchburg, VA. Out of 15,000 residential students, Webb and Jackson applied for, and were chosen, to be a part of the university’s six-member Student Court.
Webb was personally appointed by the previous student body president to become the court’s Chief Justice. After a series of confirmations, he was approved to the position by both the SGA Senate and House of Representatives. Jackson was later appointed by the new Chief Justice to serve as the Clerk of the Court.
Webb and Jackson’s weekly responsibilities include ruling on ticket appeals for parking and moving violations submitted by residential students and staff. The court hosts regular hearings, which incorporate the testimony from the police officers and students involved. The court then decides to uphold, overturn, or reduce the charges.
In the fall 2022 semester, Webb and Jackson ruled on approximately $18,600 in citations. They are continuing their work into the spring 2023 semester.
Both Webb and Jackson participated in student government programs, including the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA), in high school, and were involved in leadership roles in their church.
