Update: Corbin firefighter recovering after suffering stroke while on duty

Family and co-workers say a Corbin firefighter who suffered a stroke while on duty last Friday is on the road to recovery.

Captain Doug Brock, a 16-year veteran of the department remains at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington but according to his wife, Andrea, anti-clot medication has been effective and Doug is able to speak.

Physical therapists are working with Doug and have had him up and walking with assistance.

“He was able to eat a solid meal and drink a diet soda,” Andrea Brock stated in a Facebook update posted on her page Sunday night. “For some this may be small but I am beyond thankful and amazed.”

Corbin Fire Chief Barry McDonald said firefighters had just returned to the station from lunch about noon Friday when Brock began exhibiting the signs of a stroke.

“We kept asking him if he was okay. He wasn’t answering and then his face drooped on the right side,” McDonald said. “We knew we had to get him help.”

Whitley EMS responded to the station and transported Brock to Baptist Health Corbin.

Brock was later airlifted to Central Baptist.

Andrea Brock offered her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has offered prayers and support for Doug and her and their family.

“God continues to bless us!” Andrea Brock said. “Please continue to pray for him and his healing.”
