Corbin enjoys day of Moonbow Eggfest, Cumberland Valley Cruise-In, 5-0 5K

More than 40 cooks turned out Saturday for Fourth Annual Moonbow Eggfest to show off their skills cooking with the Big Green Egg.

Saturday was an eventful day in downtown Corbin, which hosted the Fourth Annual Moonbow Eggfest, the inaugural Corbin Police Department 5-0 5K and the Cumberland Valley Cruise-In car show.

Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Kriebel told the Corbin City Commission during its monthly meeting Monday that over 40 cooks participated and 660 people came through the gates for Eggfest.

“It was by far the largest Eggfest we have had in the history of Eggfest,” Kriebel said. “It was a huge success. It takes a village in order for us to pull off such a massive event. The Corbin Tourism certainly could not do it without the support of the city.”

Proceeds from the Eggfest go to benefit athletic programs in the city.

The 5-0 5K Saturday had about 120 participants, and generated about $2,400 for the Corbin Police Department’s new Shop with a Cop program, said Corbin Police Chief Rusty Hedrick.

“We had had a lot of good feedback from the run,” he noted.

Also taking place in downtown Saturday was the Cumberland Valley Cruise-In car show, and the Corbin Police Department’s 5-0 5K. Organizers are being encouraged to keep all three events on the same day next year.

Hedrick said that so far about $10,000 has been generated for Shop with a Cop, which will take less fortunate children on a shopping spree at the Corbin Wal-Mart prior to Christmas.

Hedrick announced that Wal-Mart donated $5,000 for the program, and Corbin Ossoli Club donated $2,500 for it.

City Commissioner Trent Knuckles encouraged organizers to keep all events on the same day for next year.

“I was down there. I thought it was really good this year. What was neat about it was the way you meshed all the events together.” Knuckles noted. “It had a really good atmosphere.”
