Corbin couple sues dog owner over attacked sheep
A Corbin couple has filed a lawsuit against the owner of a dog they say attacked five of their sheep, killing one, this past April.
The civil complaint was filed in Whitley Circuit Court by local attorney Mary-Ann Smyth on behalf of her clients Joe and Paula Bolt.
The Bolts live on Hickory Lane in Corbin. They claim in the lawsuit that a dog owned by Rachel Horn, who lives on Scarlett Drive, came onto their property on April 14 and “viciously attacked” five sheep belonging to them.
“The dog was not under any form of restraint or control of a competent person,” the lawsuit states.
“The injuries to the Plaintiff’s sheep caused one of them to pass away.”
The Bolts say the dog “had a vicious nature, disposition and propensity which was known or should have been known by Defendant.”
The couple is asking for compensation for the lost and injured sheep, veterinary costs they incurred, punitive damages and attorney fees.
Whitley Circuit Judge Paul Winchester is presiding over the case. No formal response to the lawsuit has yet been filed.
