Corbin couple injured in crash on I-75 Thursday

A Corbin couple was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London for treatment of injuries they suffered when their car hit a concrete barrier on Interstate 75 Thursday morning.

According to Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, public affairs officer at the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, Rauston Rapier, 29 and Tiffany Rapier, 23, were taken to the hospital by ambulance with what were described as, "serious injuries."

Sharon Hershberger, public relations director at St. Joseph, said Tiffany Rapier has been treated and released while Rauston Rapier is in stable condition.

Acciardo stated that the couple was traveling north near the 47 mile marker about 8:15 when they came upon a slow moving vehicle.

Using the emergency brake in an attempt to slow down caused the Mazda’s brakes to lock up, sending the car sliding out of control and into the barrier dividing north and south bound traffic.

While the Rapiers were injured, Acciardo said their 3-month-old son, who was in a child safety seat, was not injured in the crash.
Deputy James Sizemore investigated the wreck. Deputies John Inman and Gilbert Acciardo, Kentucky State Police Trooper John Barnett and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County assisted at the scene.
