Corbin couple being sought on sodomy charges
A Corbin couple are being sought by police after they were indicted on 10 counts of sodomy by a Laurel County Grand Jury. The indictment alleges that Joshua Shane Sowders, 28, and Laurel Brittany Napier, 24, engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with two children, ages 3 and 4, on multiple occasions in February and March 2010.
According to Trooper First Class Don Trosper, public affairs officer at Post 11 in London, state police were notified about the situation in July by social services. Det. Millard Root began an investigation and presented the case to the grand jury on Jan. 17.
The grand jury indicted Sowders and Napier on 10 counts of first-degree sodomy. In addition, Sowders, who pleaded guilty to second-degree rape in Knox County in 2005, was indicted one count of second-degree persistent felony offender.
Under Kentucky Law, first-degree sodomy is a class "A" felony, carrying a potential sentence of 20 to 50 years in prison.
Indictment warrants have been issue for Sowders and Napier. As of Tuesday, neither warrant had been served, according to officials at the Laurel County Detention Center.
The Laurel County Grand Jury also returned the following indictments against citizens of residing in the Corbin area and Whitley County:
• Bradley Justin Lawson, 28, Corbin, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and first-degree wanton endangerment (two counts)
• Eric Fritts, 34, Corbin, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and first-degree wanton endangerment (two counts)
• Dustin Wistafke, 27, Lily, manufacturing methamphetamine, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and first-degree persistent felony offender
Joshua Murray, 22, Lily, manufacturing methamphetamine and first-degree possession of a controlled substance
• William Whittle, 39, Corbin, manufacturing methamphetamine, fourth degree controlled substance endangerment to a child (two counts) and second-degree persistent felony offender
• Robert Bunch, 24, Corbin, receiving stolen firearm, receiving stolen property valued at $500 or more, but less than $10,000 and theft by deception of the value of $500 or more, but less than $10,000
• Zacharus Bishop, 21, Lily, first-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence
Justin Lynch, 18, Lily, first-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence
• Quentin Lawson, 32, Williamsburg, theft by deception of the value of $500 or more, but less than $10,000
• Kord Wells, 48, Corbin, theft by unlawful taking of the value of $500 or more, but less than $10,000 and second-degree persistent felony offender
• Lee Ann Sizemore, 39, Corbin, fraudulent use of a credit card of $500 or more, but less than $10,000
• Frank Sampson, 38, Corbin, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and second-degree persistent felony offender
• Zacharus B. Bishop, 21, Lily, theft of a motor vehicle registration plate
• Goldie Jennifer Roberts, 45, London, false statement as to identity or financial condition and second-degree persistent felony offender
• Terry Lynn McFarland, 32, Corbin, theft by unlawful taking over $500, but less than $10,000 (two counts), theft by unlawful taking less than $500 and possession of marijuana
• Michelle Brown, 32, Gray, first-degree promoting contraband, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in an improper container, no brake lights, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and first-degree persistent felony offender
• Kimberly Vaughn, 37, Corbin, unlawful possession of methamphetamine precursors, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and possession of marijuana
• Mickey Gabbard, 46, Lily, manufacturing methamphetamine and operating a vehicle with expired registration plate
• Dennis Myers, 28, Corbin, manufacturing methamphetamine
