Corbin Commissioner hospitalized Sunday after suffering stroke

A popular Corbin City Commissioner was hospitalized Sunday after suffering an apparent stroke at his home.

Bruce Farris, a local certified public accountant who was serving in his third term on the five-member board, suffered a stroke sometime around 1:00 p.m. Sunday, said Corbin Mayor Willard McBurney.

"I would have never expected anything like this," McBurney said. "He walked a lot and seemed healthy. It’s really a shock. We are all praying that he makes a full recovery. He is an excellent commissioner."

McBurney said Farris was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center and was immediately flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He is currently being treated at the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

Farris was the most popular of all commissioners among local voters last election, outstripping his opponents by over 200 votes. He was seeking reelection for another two-year term to the post this year.
