Corbin city yard sales begin Saturday
If you are considering holding a yardsale or garage sale in the coming weeks, the City of Corbin is offering the opportunity to show off those items to more potential sellers Saturday as the monthly citywide yard sales begin.
The events are held on Depot Street between Fourth and Gordon Streets on the first Saturday of each month.
Corbin Downtown Director Andy Salmons said he began the event in April 2012 as a play off of the, “World’s Longest Yard Sale,” which is held each year stretching along U.S. 127 between Michigan and Alabama. At the time, the plan was to hold the event twice a year. However, within a few months, it had grown and in Salmon’s words, “taken on a life of its own and become self-organizing.”
Salmons said Monday the number of vendors has doubled from approximately 50 to close to 100 at any given event.
Space is free and open to the public on a first-come-first-served basis. Vendors must bring their own tables and tents if they so desire.
Vendors are asked to set up on the sidewalks, leaving the street open for the crowd.
The municipal parking lots along Depot Street will be available for parking for both vendors and shoppers.
“There is also parking available on Main Street,” Salmons said.
Salmons said setup is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. with the sale begining at 8 p.m. and continuing until 2 p.m. The events would be held rain or shine.
“We ask that all vendors leave the space you were using cleaner than you found it,” Salmons said.
The sales will be held monthly through October.
Dates for future yard sales include: May 5, June 2, July 7, August 4, September 1, and October 6.
Salmons said food vendors and musicians are welcome and encouraged to join the event.
“They just have to bring their own power supply,” Salmons said.
