Corbin Christmas Parade this Saturday
The annual Corbin Christmas Parade will be traipsing up Main Street Saturday night.
Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Monhollen said more than 20 businesses had signed up to participate.
“That doesn’t include other organizations along with the fire departments and others that just show up,” Monhollen said.
“It is going to be one of the biggest parades that I have seen in Corbin,” she said.
While the deadline to enter was Nov. 26, Monhollen said she was still receiving registrations in the mail on Tuesday and would continue to accept entries.
“I don’t want to turn anybody away,” Monhollen said.
Lineup for the parade will begin at 6 p.m. at Corbin City Hall with the parade going north on Main Street beginning at 7 p.m.
Monhollen said Main Street between Eighth and Gordon Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 5 p.m.
“We are asking that no cars be parked on Main Street at that time,” Monhollen said.
Main Street will reopen to traffic immediately after the parade.
The parade route will go north on Main Street to Gordon Street where it will disperse.
In addition to the parade, the skating rink will be returning beginning Saturday.
Monhollen said the skating rink will be in the lot across from Sanders Park through Dec. 11.
Rink hours will be noon to 10 p.m. on each Saturday, noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday.
The cost to skate is $5 per person for a 30-minute session.
“It is a synthetic ice rink,” Monhollen said emphasizing that traditional ice skates will not work on the surface.
The cost to skate includes skate rental.
Along with the parade and ice skating, a number of holiday themed activities will be taking place downtown.
Santa will be at the Santa house at NIBROC Park.
Corbin Tourism will be providing free hot chocolate and local businesses will be there to give away free cookies.
Children will have the opportunity to write letters to Santa and take part in special crafts.
