Corbin BOE recognizes Forchts for their donation

“Terry and Marion Forcht understand the necessity of investing in the education of our students as an investment in our future,” is how Corbin Board of Education Chair Kim Croley described the Forchts’ donation of a two-story building on Barbourville Street.

The Forchts were recognized during the board’s monthly meeting on July 15. They received a plaque in honor of their donation.

“They have contributed so much to our communities through their many business ventures, their ongoing support of the University of the Cumberlands and their support of our local schools,” said Croley. “Their generous gift to the Corbin Board of Education enables many of our administrative departments to work close together in a safe, welcoming environment fostering even more collaboration and innovation in their daily work.”

The donated building, which is known as the Hacker Building, will be used to expand the district’s central office.

“It is an extremely generous donation for us. It is going to allow us to spread our central office out a little bit, and get folks individual offices and that type of thing,” said Corbin Superintendent David Cox. “It is just a really nice gesture for us. It is on the side of town close to our main central office, so that is very handy as well. We certainly appreciate it.”

The Hacker Building previously housed Corbin United Effort, but it has been rented out a number of times.

“Education – Focus – Goal-Setting – Perseverance – Achievement. These words describe the work ethic of Terry and Marion Forcht and the Corbin Independent School System. Thank you will never be able to truly convey our gratitude,” Croley said.
