Corbin BOE develops tentative calendar for 2016-17 school year
The Corbin Board of Education has reached a tentative agreement on the calendar for the 2016-17 school year and will be asking for additional comments from faculty, staff and parents before giving it final approval.
The calendar calls for classes to begin Aug. 17 with the last day of school scheduled for May 19, 2017. NIBROC is scheduled for Aug. 3-6.
Fall break would be Oct. 17-21. Christmas break will begin Wednesday Dec. 21 with students returning to class on Jan. 4, 2017.
Spring break will be April 3-7, 2017.
The calendar includes five makeup days.
With the 10 Redhound Enrichment days, Superintendent Ed McNeel noted that would allow students to miss 15 days because of weather or illness and still get out for the summer before Memorial Day.
McNeel noted that by state law, a school system is required to build in sufficient makeup days to cover the average number of days missed in previous school years.
McNeel noted Corbin is averaging approximately 12 days.
Graduation will be May 19, 20, or 21.
The calendar will be sent out via survey monkey with the question of whether or not you like the proposal and, if not, what would you change.
