Corbin Band to host Christmas concert
The Corbin High School Band will be giving the Christmas season a final sendoff on Tuesday when it performs the Christmas concert.
“We have not had a concert since spring 2019,” said Band Director James Cornn.
“We cancelled the Christmas concert for snow that didn’t hit us,” Cornn said noting that the predicted snow that night failed to materialize in the area, hitting Pineville instead.
COVID–19 closed schools in the spring. While the band did perform at Downtown Christmas Open House in Corbin on Nov. 22, the original Christmas concert was cancelled because of COVID–19 restrictions that suspended other activities, including basketball.
“Games are now occurring in the gym so we are also now able to move forward,” Cornn said.
The concert will feature approximately 45 band members performing.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gym.
Because of attendance limits in the gym due to COVID–19, Cornn said will be limited to par-ents/family members of band members with a ticket.
However, the concert will be aired on YouTube and will be aired at a later date on the Redhound TV Channel.
“I feel strongly that if sports can happen, the arts can also safely happen,” Cornn said.
“I believe I need to provide as many opportunities for our students to safely experience music during this unprecedented time.”
