The Corbin Thursday at Log Mountain.Redhounds went over the .500 mark with a win over the Bell County Bobcats
The Redhounds (11-10) scored seven runs in the final two innings to pull away for a 12-8 win. Corbin scored solo runs in the first and second innings for a 2-0 lead. The Redhounds added two runs in the third and one in the fifth to extend the lead to five. Bell County came to life in the bottom of the fifth and scored four runs to pull within one, 5-4.
But, the Redhounds held off the Bobcats with three runs in the top of the sixth. Trace Vorbeck opened the inning with a blast over the left center field fence for a home run and a 6-4 lead. Travis Smith and Vinnie Hoover followed with base hits. Smith stole second and scored on Hoover’s single. Hoover then scored on a hit by Brady Foley,
The Redhounds pulled away in the top of the seventh when Ryan Clouse led off with a walk. Josh Coppock followed with a walk and Cody Duncum loaded the bases with a single.
Vorbeck sent all three runners in with a double that put the ‘Hounds ahead, 11-6. Smith scored the final run for the Redhounds after reaching on a fielder’s choice. He scored on a Ben House double.
The Redhounds were rained out of Monday and Tuesday’s district game with Williamsburg. They will play a doubleheader at Williamsburg Wednesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Briar Creek Park.
Corbin is scheduled to host Lexington Catholic Thursday at 6 p.m. and travel to Middlesboro Friday.
