Continuing Coverage: 49th District Soccer Tournaments

Update 1: On Tuesday, October 8 the Corbin Redhounds improved their season record to 14-4-1 with a 6-1 victory over Oneida Baptist Institute at the Whitley County soccer complex in Williamsburg. The win not only advances Corbin to this year’s district championship game on Thursday, but it also qualifies them for the 2019 13th Region championship tournament.
In girls soccer action Tuesday, the North Laurel Lady Jaguars defeated South Laurel, 5-0.
Both Whitley County teams are scheduled to be in action Wednesday, with the Colonel boys hosting South Laurel while the Lady Colonels host the Corbin Lady Hounds. Both games are set to get underway at 5:30 p.m. Look here Wednesday evening for another update.
Update 2: After Wednesday evening’s games, this year’s 49th District championship games are set.
In the boys’ bracket, it will be the Corbin Redhounds versus the South Laurel Cardinals (13-6-2). The Cards defeated Whitley County Wednesday 8-2, ending the Colonels’ 2019 season with an overall record of 11-6.
In the girls’ bracket, it will be the North Laurel Lady Jaguars (13-1-1) versus the Corbin Lady Hounds (9-10). The Hounds defeated Whitley County Wednesday 7-3, ending the Lady Colonels’ season with a 12-4 overall record.
Both championship games are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the Whitley County soccer complex. Look here after the games for another update.
Update 3: The Corbin boys were victorious over South Laurel Thursday evening, 5-1, giving them their first 49th District championship title since the 2014 season. Meanwhile, the Corbin girls were defeated in overtime by North Laurel.
Both the Redhounds and the Lady Hounds will now move on to next week’s 13th Region championship tournaments.
