Continuing Coverage: 2018 Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament
Continue to check this post throughout the remainder of the week for updates on the 32nd Annual Cumberland Falls Invitation Tournament at Corbin High School.
Update x3: It all came down to a matchup between two longtime 13th Region rivals Saturday night as the host Corbin Redhounds and the Clay County Tigers did battle to decide this year’s Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament championship. A competitive game ultimately ended up going to the Tigers by the final score of 70-59, improving them to a perfect 14-0 on the year. With the loss, Corbin drops to 7-3. All-Tournament team selections were announced at the conclusion of Saturday’s championship contest. Making the cut from Corbin was Chase Sanders, Matthew Taylor, Josh Hibbitts and Alex Byrley. Players selected from Clay County were Justin Begley, Connor Farmer, Evan Langdon and Jacob Curry. Senior Redhound Brody Barton was the recipient of the Jerry “Zeke” Perkins 110% Award, and sophomore Tiger Connor Robinson was named as tournament MVP. Update x2: With a 64-49 win over Bell County Friday evening, the Corbin Redhounds (7-2) have advanced to face either Clay County or Union County, SC Saturday in this year’s Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament championship game. The tournament finale will be the last of four games scheduled to take place inside Gilliam Gymnasium Saturday, and is tentatively scheduled to tip off at 9:15 pm.

Update x1: On Thursday, Union County, SC defeated Floyd Central 67-61 and Clay County defeated Mercer County 63-61, setting up a Clay versus Union County semifinal round matchup in the late game tonight (Friday). This contest will tip off following the conclusion of the Corbin versus Bell County game, or at approximately 9:45 p.m. The winner of Corbin-Bell will meet the winner of Union-Clay Saturday night in this year’s Falls Invitational championship game.
Original: On Wednesday, the 2018 CFIT opened up with Bell County defeating Daniel, SC 63-47 in game one. In game two, Corbin defeated North Hardin 88-83 in overtime, setting up a Redhounds versus Bobcats semifinal round matchup Friday at 7:15 p.m. Tonight (Thursday) Union, SC will play Floyd Central at 7:15, followed by Mercer County taking on Clay County in the late game, tentatively scheduled to tip off at 9:00 p.m.
