Construction bids awarded for water, sewer lines

After comparing the eight bids and ensuring it met all of the specifications, H2O Construction out of Pikeville was awarded the contract to install the water and sewer lines for the new Grace Community Health medical campus and Euro Sticks facility that are under development on the Corbin bypass.

At a special called meeting of the Corbin City Commission last Thursday, the bidding for the project was closed and the sealed bids were opened.

H2O Construction turned in a bid of $226,050. The next lowest bidder was Lc Excavation and Dirt Work out of London with a bid of $254,200.

After the bids were opened, a motion was made for the bids to be taken under advisement. Bruce Carpenter, Executive Director of the Southeast Kentucky Industrial Development Authority met with MSE of Kentucky President Glen Ross and Vice President D. Scott Taylor, the architectural and engineering firm for the project, to ensure the bids met the project specifications.

When the trio returned, Ross announced that all of the bids did meet the specifications and recommended the bid be awarded to H2O Construction.

Ross said work would begin within the next two weeks and take approximately 120 days to complete.

Work is on going at the speculative building that will house Euro Sticks.

When the project was announced in late June, Carpenter said the French company that manufactures ice cream and coffee stir sticks, will bring 90 jobs to the area.

Production is expected to begin after the first of the year.

Grace Community Health Center closed on the purchase of 10 acres of property in the Southeast Kentucky Small Business Park in May.

Michael Stanley, CEO of Grace Community Health Center, said the site would serve as the home of a new medical campus.
