Colonels to welcome in large field of teams next week for Borderline Classic
Next week, the first-ever Borderline Classic is set to tip off at Whitley County High School and the University of the Cumberlands. For three straight days, teams from Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida will compete with each other in JV and varsity boys high school basketball action.
The host Whitley County Colonels will, of course, be taking part in the Borderline Classic, as will the Lynn Camp Wildcats. One other team from the 13th Region, the Barbourville Tigers, will be there as well.
The Colonels, who are just coming off of a two-day trip to Knightstown, Ind. where they got the unique opportunity to play inside the historic Hoosier Gym, will host the Belfry Pirates this Friday, Dec. 22, before welcoming in a dozen other teams for the Borderline Classic beginning Wednesday, Dec. 27.
On opening day of the Classic, Whitley will be in action inside the O. Wayne Rollins Center on the campus of the University of the Cumberlands, taking on South Doyle (Tenn.). Other games scheduled to take place in the O. Wayne Rollins Center that day include Barbourville versus Owsley County, Southwestern versus Williamstown, Somerset versus Collins and Trinity Chrisitan (Fla.) versus Tri-Cities (Tenn.).
Games are set to tip off at noon on Dec. 27, with the Colonels playing in game four. Meanwhile, back across town at Whitley County High School, Lynn Camp and Garrard County are scheduled to face each other at about 5 p.m.
The next day, Tri-Cities versus Collins, Williamstown versus Lynn Camp and Owsley County versus Trinity Christian have all been scheduled to take place at the O. Wayne Rollins Center, with game one getting underway at 11 a.m. Whitley County will be back on their home court against Barbourville, capping off the day’s action following a pair of JV contests in the early afternoon, a Garrard County versus Sunbright (Tenn.) varsity matchup, and Southwestern versus South Doyle.
The Colonels, the Wildcats and the Tigers will all be at the University of the Cumberlands on day three, with Barbourville kicking things off against Trinity Christian at noon. Lynn Camp will play Tri-Cities in the next game, followed by Collins versus Southwestern, Whitley versus Garrard County and Somerset versus South Doyle.
Also kicking off on Dec. 27 will be the Annual Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament at Corbin High School. For more info on what to expect at this event, be sure to check out next week’s edition of the News Journal.
