Cleanup along KY312, KY770 performed last week
Area residents that frequently travel KY312 and KY770 into and out of Corbin through Laurel County should hopefully be able to notice the drive is now a little less unsightly after a day-long cleanup last week.
Workers with Corbin Public Works spent much of last Thursday along the two roadways picking up hoards of trash sprawled all across both sides of the road. The area had become a proverbial dumping ground, where it was common to find anything from fast food cups to carpeting along the side of the road.
Corbin City Manager Marlon Sams said that Thursday’s cleanup consisted of seven
workers who were out picking up garbage for approximately 10 hours. During that time, the workers filled 95 bags of 45-gallon trash bags, disposed of seven tires and picked up numerous vehicle parts too large to put into bags.
Being positioned within Laurel County, the City of Corbin is not required to maintain the area along those two roadways. Despite that, Sams said he and Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus felt that something needed to be done about what he called an “eyesore.”
“The area looked awful. It looked like a trash dump,” said Sams. “That’s the main entrance that a lot of people use coming into the City of Corbin.”
The workers picked up trash from Sonny’s BBQ along KY770 all the way to the KY312 bridge during the cleanup.
