Clay Advances
Four Clay County players scored in double figures as the Tigers advanced to the semifinals of the 13th Region Tournament at The Arena in Corbin Wednesday night with a 68-56 win over the Barbourville Tigers.
The Tigers roared out to a 23-11 lead in the first quarter behind the scoring of Kendale Reed and DJ Wilson. Barbourville outscored Clay County 15-10 in the second period and cut the halftime deficit to 33-26. Josh Hilderbrand led the Tigers in the rally.
The 49th District champions (Clay County) eased out to a 47-37 lead at the third stop then cruised in for the victory.
Reed led Clay County with 18 points while Codi Roberts and Matthew Mitchell added 14 points each. Wilson finished in double figures with 13 points.
Hilderbrand led all scorers with 20 points in the loss while Darrin Mills added 13 points.
Clay County (21-9) will take on the Corbin Redhounds (25-3) in the semifinals Saturday at 3 p.m.
