City of Williamsburg Mayor signs Colon Cancer Awareness Proclamation
City of Williamsburg’s Mayor Roddy Harrison, is shown recently signing a proclamation for “Colon Cancer Awareness” honoring the women and men who have lost their lives to colon cancer. Excluding skin cancer, colon cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. The lifetime risk of developing colon cancer is approximately 1 in 20, and is slightly lower in women than in men. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Beginning March 1, individuals from the Tri-County area will gather to begin to change these statistics by joining together to fight against colon cancer. Mayor Harrison urges all community members to support the efforts and dedicate themselves to fight against colon cancer.
