City of Corbin to unveil new website by end of the month
The city of Corbin plans to unveil a completely revamped website by the end of the month, Mayor Willard McBurney said Tuesday.
Months in the making the website, which will have it’s home at www.corbin-ky.gov, is a complete redesign that incorporates ideas from websites for the city of Danville and several other cities in Kentucky.
"We found some ideas that we liked with other cities and incorporated them into our site," said McBurney. "We’ve been working on this since June. It’s taken longer than expected but I think it is something the city can be proud of."
Union College professor Brandon Landrum completed the principal design of the website, McBurney said. City employees will be responsible for updating the site at least two to three times a week.
McBurney said the city’s new website would have a community calendar, and will contain much useful information citizens may be interested in like minutes from city meetings, annual audits, financial information and expenditures and the budget. People will also be able to contact local government leaders by email through the site.
"What we have right now is sort of embarrassing," McBurney said. "We wanted something that represents the city better. I’ve seen what it’s going to look like and it is impressive."
McBurney said the final cost of the site will be between $5,000 and $10,000. He added that a comparable site would likely cost the city $20,000 elsewhere but that Landrum, who is from Corbin, did it cheaply to help the city.
"It’s really a good deal for us," McBurney said.
The site will contain links to other existing area websites for government organizations like the Tourism Commission, City Utilities Commission and the Chamber of Commerce.
