City Commission votes to oust Arena management firm

It took the Corbin City Commission all of 5 minutes Thursday to approve a motion not to renew the contract with SMG to manage the Corbin Arena.

At a special called meeting, Commissioner Phil Gregory made the motion that the City of Corbin not to renew the contract, which is set to expire in December.

Neither Mayor Willard McBurney, City Manager Bill Ed Cannon nor any of the three city commissioners at the meeting made any comments during or after the meeting.

They referred questions to City Attorney Bob Hammons.

"By their actions, they are not satisfied," Hammons said of the decision.

Hammons added he will be sending a letter out to SMG executives informing them of the commission’s decision.

Arena General Manager Cliff Clinger was in attendance, but did to speak to the commission and declined to comment after meeting.
