Circumstances behind fatal wreck under investigation
A Barbourville man killed when he was ejected from his pickup truck Thursday night on Ky. 779 near three point has left Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies working to figure out where he was coming from, where he was going and how long he may have been lying trapped underneath his truck before he was found.
Thirty-eight-year-old Conley A. Cornett was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Sheriff Colan Harrell, deputies and emergency personnel were called to the scene off of Ky. 26 about 8:45 p.m. in response to a 911 call of a wrecked pickup truck.
“The caller stated nobody was in the vehicle,” Harrell stated.
Harrell said deputies and emergency personnel found Cornett trapped under the left, rear tire of the truck.
“That road has some wicked curves,” Harrell said of the area. “There are some places where you meet yourself.”
The circumstances behind the wreck remain under investigation.
Harrell said a toxicology test is being performed to rule out the use of drugs or alcohol as a factor.
