CHS swimmers going to state after strong showing at region

This past Friday and Saturday the Corbin Redhound swimming team took part in regional competition at the Stiver’s Aquatic Center in Barbourville.
At the end of the two-day meet, the Redhound boys had placed twelfth overall out of nearly 30 teams appearing at the meet. The girls fared a little better, placing eighth overall and qualifying several swimmer to the KHSAA state championships in Louisville next week.
The girls 200 medley relay and 400 relay teams qualified for state. Individual team members are: Parker Herren (Fr), Megan Mills (Fr), Mattie Hopper (8th) and Kyra Meece (Fr).
This is the second year in a row that Corbin has sent swimmers to the state championships. Head Coach Kyle Yeager said of the achievement, “Every kid swam great at the region meet, dropping huge chunks of time. I am proud of them, and feel extremely happy and blessed to be their coach. They pushed aside all nerves, and really gave it their all.”
“Sadly, the boys did not make is back to state this year,” Yeager continued. “But I am still proud of the them for their hard work and dedication. I am also excited and proud for our girls, who have trained hard all year for this moment.”
The KHSAA state swimming championships will be held at the University of Louisville on Friday and Saturday, February 27-28. the News Journal will have more information on that event as it becomes available.
