CHS Rollin’ Redhounds open season

Corbin High School’s Rollin’ Redhounds Bowling Team kicked off its season Sunday in Danville.
Coach Pat Venable has eight girls and ten boys competing in 2021, who range from grades seven through 12.
Sunday’s event was the Eighth Region Singles Kick-Off at the Bowlarama.
Kevin Allen
Corbin’s Kevin Allen won the boys division.
Allen rolled games of 215, 208, 279, and 234 for a total score of 936 to take the lead going into the top eight bracket play.
Allen defeated Parker Price, 225 to 183, and then defeated Montana Jarman, 203 to 107 to win the tournament.
Mark Prewitt finished 19th with a score of 672. Nate Lunsford finished 20th with a score of 648, Sam Belew finished 21st with a 633, Ryan Lunsford finished 24th with 607, and Gavin Sloan finished 25th with 553.
Jeremy White shot 428. Alex Chandler rolled 378 and Cody Hubbs shot 372.
Lauren Shackleford
Lauren Shackleford opened with a 213 game en route to a 638 total to finish in fifth place.
Emily Pridemore finished ninth with a score of 593, Brook Stewart finished 11th with a 580, Madison Young shot 545 to take 15th, Precious Dozier rolled a 470, Linda Grace Shepherd shot 431, and Leak Pataki rolled a 340.
Venable said the bowling regional tournaments are still scheduled to begin in late January despite the season just beginning.
While the Rollin’ Redhounds don’t currently have any other events scheduled, they are working on that, as high school bowling is typically a team sport.
Venable said on the boys side, she has an experienced team that could place at region and go on to the state tournament.
“It is a very cohesive team,” Venable said noting they have been together since seventh grade.
On the girls side, Venable said while the team has lost several veterans from the 2019-20 team, she is looking to Shackleford to anchor the team that has gone to state three times in five years.
Venable, who has coached the team since it began in 2011, gave credit for the team’s success to Assistant Coach Mike Petrey and Hillcrest Lanes in Harrogate, Tennessee, where the Redhounds practice.
“They have been good to us,” Venable said of Hillcrest Lanes.
