CHS Roastin’ Redhounds advance to state finals
Corbin High School’s Roastin’ Redhounds will compete for the state championship Friday morning.
The team of Sarah Sawyers, Ken Trudelle and Makenzie Bellew defeated Bath County in the semifinals of the Kentucky Junior Chef competition at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville.
Corbin Coach Jessica Lester said the Redhounds will compete against the winner of Montgomery County and Graves County at 10 a.m.
Should the Redhounds win, they will earn the right to compete in the national competition to be held in Louisville in May.
“This is a really phenomenal team and it is all in the way they work together,” Lester said.
Corbin defeated Harlan County and Boyle County in the first two rounds of the Sweet 16 last week.
The team members said Monday that after their experience last week and with the tweaking of their recipe for Pollo y Pavo fajita flatbread pizza with homemade pico, they are felt good about returning to Louisville for Thursday’s competition.
