Christmas at the News Journal
It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas around Corbin! Between the decorations put out by the Corbin Public Works team and events sponsored by the city and tourism there is something to put everyone in the holiday spirit.
One holiday site that is a less widely-known is located right here in the office where I am writing this column.
For the first time ever, the News Journal has its very own holiday display located inside our office.
The décor is thanks to a very special elf that has come to visit the Tri-County area. He has travelled all the way from NP Headquarters, which is located at the North Pole, to help Santa determine if the area should make the Naughty or Nice list this season.
When Newsy arrived early Wednesday morning, he set to work decorating to make sure the entire office was in the holiday spirit by 9 a.m.
Because he is used to being at the North Pole where candy canes, hot chocolate and other sweet treats abound, Mr. Claus sent some treats for children and adults alike with Newsy to give out to people who visit his office.
Newsy’s office doubles as his work space and living area as he wanted to stay close to the special phone Mr. and Mrs. Claus sent with him.
His office is already a bit messy, but he is hard at work writing his reports, visiting the area, and meeting new people.
Unlike Santa, Newsy is just one little elf who won’t be able to visit everywhere in the Tri-County area while he is here.
As a solution to his problem, he has decided to invite the community to come to him.
He will open his office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
When people come to visit, Newsy encourages them to bring their letters for Santa and place them in the mailbox beside his office. For visitors that bring lists that just won’t fit into the mailbox, Newsy has placed a red bin on the table beside his door for those letters to be placed in.
Bringing a letter is not required to visit. Just come on down to the News Journal to see where Newsy is working and living while not at the North Pole this season.
