Child struck by vehicle near Williamsburg late Monday night
Police say a two-year-old girl who was accidentally struck by her mother’s vehicle in the family’s driveway is in stable condition in a Tennessee hospital following the incident.
According to Whitley County Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Davis the accident happened at a residence located on Young’s Branch Road just before 6:00 p.m. Monday. The private road is located in the Verne community of Whitley County.
Davis said the girl was playing on the front porch of the home and ran after her mother as she was pulling out of the driveway. She was struck by the rear passenger side of the vehicle.
The girl was airlifted by Air Evac Lifeteam from old Nevisdale school and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where she is listed in stable condition as of about 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Davis said he only knew that the girl’s last name is Young and that he has not had an opportunity to interview the child’s parents or anyone that may have witnessed the accident.
