Charles D. “Charlie” Prewitt,

Charles D. “Charlie” Prewitt, 84, of the Lot-Mud Creek community of Whitley County, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in La Follette, TN on January 1, 1934 to the late Jerry Dewie Prewitt and Nannie (Butler) Prewitt.

He was the grandson of the late John Prewitt and Louisa (Brim) Prewitt and the late William Butler and Lillie (Parrott) Butler.

He was a member of Highcliff Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a retired U.S. Army veteran and reservist who served his country for more than 36 years. He also worked for the Kentucky Highway Department and was a farmer.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Barrett) Prewitt; infant son, Charles D. Prewitt, Jr.; brothers, John Albert Prewitt, Quentin Prewitt and Albert Lee Prewitt; sisters, Clara (Prewitt) Haggan, Grace (Prewitt) Carroll, Dolores (Prewitt) Vest and Loretta (Prewitt) Bowlin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Eva (Carpenter) Barrett.

He is survived by daughter, Kathy M. (Prewitt) Shorrosh, and husband, Basil, of Fort Collins, CO; sons, Johnny R. Prewitt, and wife, Barbara Ann, Vernon Prewitt, Daniel Prewitt and James Prewitt, all of the Lot-Mud Creek community of Whitley County; grandchildren, Hanan Shorrosh, David Shorrosh, Andrea Jane Branson, Sarah (Prewitt) Meek, Rachael Ann Prewitt, John Auston Prewitt and Lakisha Annette Prewitt; brother, James N. Prewitt, and wife Laura Jane, of the Lot-Mud Creek community; sister, Joyce (Prewitt) Bowlin, of Toledo, OH; several great- grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends, neighbors and other relatives to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held Friday morning, July 20, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lester Cox officiating.

Military graveside honors were conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard, Arlie Long Post # 154.

Burial followed in the Prewitt Family Cemetery on Lot-Mud Creek Road in Whitley County, KY.

Cox & Son Funeral Home of Jellico was in charge of all arrangements.
